Coat care has never been, for me, a sequence of procedures or a well-chosen set of products. It is the ability to observe, to understand, and to notice in time what an animal’s skin, coat and general condition are trying to tell us.
In this book I have gathered the knowledge I built up over many years of working with different dogs — breeding them, preparing them for shows, analysing results, and looking for answers where theory alone could not provide them.
I share more than what worked. I also write about the mistakes, the doubts, the attempts that failed, and the discoveries that in time became the foundation of how I work.
This is not a book that teaches you to repeat procedures blindly. It is for those who want to understand why one decision is chosen over another, and how to build a care system that suits the needs of a particular animal.

A beautiful coat is not a result on its own. Its condition is shaped by the skin, nutrition, environment, daily habits, the products chosen, how regularly care is given, and the individual traits of the animal.
That is why this book is not only about which shampoo, conditioner or procedure to choose. What matters far more is understanding why a problem appeared in the first place, what a changed coat structure, sensitive skin or lost shine is telling you, and where to start looking for the real cause.
Over many years I came to understand that no single solution can suit everyone. What gives an excellent result for one dog may be entirely wrong for another. Professional care therefore begins not with a product, but with the ability to observe and assess.
In the book I connect theory with real situations I have lived through in the kennel, in grooming practice, and while preparing dogs for international shows. Each of those experiences taught me to see not an isolated symptom, but the whole picture of an animal’s condition.

Only by understanding what we are truly seeing can we choose the right direction of care.
I wrote this book with people in mind who play different roles in an animal’s care, yet often run into the very same questions.
This book will help you better understand your pet's skin and coat condition, daily care principles, and the purpose of different products. It is intended for pet owners who do not want to choose products based solely on packaging or general recommendations, but seek a deeper understanding of what truly suits their pet.
The book will provide a broader basis for evaluating different fur types, skin conditions, the sequence of procedures, and the logic behind the products used. It will not only help perform the procedure but also better understand why a specific care approach is chosen, how to monitor the results, and when to adjust them.
In the book, I share my experience on how daily care, nutrition, physical condition, coat preparation, and consistency combine to achieve overall results. This is especially relevant for breeders who aim not for a short-term visual effect, but for the animal's long-term well-being and responsible preparation for shows.
This book is also part of my professional journey. In it, I tell the story of my path from first attempts and questions to establishing a kennel, participating in international shows, developing products, and sharing accumulated knowledge with others. This is a story about work that grows with each animal, each mistake, and each newly discovered answer.
The book is arranged to take you step by step from the basic principles of understanding skin and coat through to more complex care decisions, grooming practice, and preparing champions.
Every animal's coat has its own structure, growth cycle, density, texture, and grooming needs. In the book, I explain how to assess different coat types, monitor skin condition, and recognize signs that a regular grooming routine is no longer suitable. Only by understanding an animal's natural characteristics can one develop a grooming regimen that supports, rather than overwhelms, it.
A one-off procedure can temporarily improve the appearance of the coat, but only a consistent system creates a long-term result. In this section, I discuss how to combine procedures, products, their frequency of use, and daily habits. I also explain why the grooming system must be constantly monitored and adjusted according to the animal's condition.
The abundance of products does not inherently lead to better results. Sometimes, an excessive amount of products even hinders the ability to understand what truly works. In the book, I teach how to evaluate a product not by the promise on its label, but by its function: what it does, when it is needed, what it can be combined with, and for which coat or skin condition it is intended.
Skin and coat cannot be evaluated separately from the animal's general well-being. Coat structure, shedding, shine, and skin condition often reflect much broader processes. Therefore, in this section, I discuss why external care is important to assess together with nutrition, environment, lifestyle, and the individual condition of the animal.
Professional grooming is not just about performing technical procedures. It's about continuous observation, decision-making, and the ability to adapt to the animal. I share professional insights on the logic behind procedures, working with different coat types, product usage, and evaluating results.
Success in the show ring begins long before show day. In this section, I discuss the daily discipline, preparation system, coat care, physical condition, and teamwork that lie behind the results of internationally recognized dogs.
The knowledge I share in this book did not form overnight. It was shaped by the people I met, the animals I worked with, the decisions I made, the mistakes, and a continuous desire to understand more. In this section, I describe how these experiences gradually became my working methodology.

In the show ring the spectator sees a few minutes: the dog’s movement, its stance, the condition of its coat, and its bond with the handler. Behind that moment lies a far longer story.
Responsible breeding. Balanced nutrition. Maintaining physical condition. Socialisation. Daily coat care. Long hours of preparation. The ability to notice small changes and adjust the routine in time.
Preparing dogs for shows taught me that a top-level result cannot be created in the final week. It cannot be drawn out of one intensive treatment or one well-chosen product. It is grown gradually — through habits, discipline, patience, and respect for each animal’s individuality.
In this book I share the experience that took shape while raising and preparing internationally recognised dogs. Not to offer one universal formula, but to show the principles that help build a consistent result.
Each dog is assessed according to its age, condition, coat type, life stage, and individual needs.
A long-term result is created not by a single intensive procedure, but by a system repeated daily and purposefully adjusted.
The condition of the coat is assessed together with the skin, diet, environment, physical condition, and general well-being of the animal.
Change takes time. Rushing often creates a short-term effect, but not a long-term result.
A show lasts one day. Preparing for it happens every day.
I did not write this book to be read once and put back on the shelf. I wanted it to become a practical source for work and care — a book you can open again when a specific question comes up, when you meet a new situation, or when you want to reassess the care system you have chosen.
Inside you will find illustrations, examples of coat types, explanations of care systems, practical situations, photographs, and fragments of personal experience. Some topics may give you a first answer. Others will prompt you to observe more closely and look deeper.

Moments with dogs and people
When I began my professional path, I did not yet know many of the answers. Some I found by observing. Others by getting it wrong. Still others came from conversations with specialists, from years of practice, and from daily work with animals.
Every dog taught me something new. One made me look at skin condition afresh, another made me change a settled care routine, a third showed me that even long experience does not release you from the duty to keep observing and learning.
In time, individual observations became a system. The system became a method of working. And the knowledge I had gathered led me to ask myself one question: what of it will remain for others?
I wrote this book so that my experience would not stay only in my hands. I want it to help pet owners understand their animals better, groomers make professional decisions on firmer ground, and breeders build long-term care more consistently.
What matters most to me is not that the reader repeats what I did. I want them to learn to observe, to ask, and to understand why they choose one path over another.

430 pages of practical knowledge, professional experience, real situations and personal history.
The book is intended for pet owners, professional groomers, breeders, care specialists, and people who want to learn more about my professional journey. It provides information adapted for readers with varying levels of experience – from those seeking a clearer daily pet care system to professionals working with different coat types.
Yes. The book explains complex topics through practical principles, observation, and real-life situations. Therefore, it can be useful for both pet owners and experienced specialists. Professional experience is not necessary, but a desire to understand the animal's skin, coat, and grooming logic more deeply is important.
No. Grooming is one of the topics discussed in the book, but the content is much broader. In the book, I talk about skin, coat, grooming systems, the purpose of products, the connection between nutrition and external condition, breeding, daily care, and preparing show dogs. All of this is combined into a single, holistic view of the animal's condition.
